Foxygen at The Echo in LA performance review

Scott Shelf reviewed Foxygen’s recent homecoming show for the LA Record:

Led by the duo of Sam France (vox) and Jonathan Rado (guitar/keyboards), Foxygen is a journey into yesteryear in both sight and sound. With France dressed in a long brown hippie shirt and beads around his neck, and Rado donning a big-brimmed black pimp daddy hat, Foxygen set the tone for the night with its opening number “Bowling Trophies,” an upbeat instrumental trip back ‘60s psych-pop.

The band tried a head-fake set closer six songs into the show, but the crowd wasn’t buying it. The real set closer brought opening act and friends of the band, Wolf Thompson, up on stage for a riotous rendition of the title track off their latest album We Are the 21st Century Ambassadors of Peace and Magic. The song finished with the bands smashing instruments and leaving all their energy on stage.
